Embrace Your Dark Side!
The shadow, as described by Carl Jung, is the unconscious part of our character or personality that does not align with the ideal version of what we’re aiming for, this being the version of us Jung called the ego ideal. Carl Jung said that, “Everyone carries a shadow, and the less it is embodied in the individual’s conscious life, the blacker and denser it is. At all counts, it forms an unconscious snag, thwarting our most well-meant intentions.”
The endless series of shadow and doppelgänger figures in mythology, fairy tales and literature ranges from Cain and Edom, by way of Judas and Hagen, to Stevenson’s Mr. Hyde. Everyone has a shadow. It is important to face our shadow and integrate it into our ego. To find our shadow, we engage in a series of exercises meant to unleash the subconscious.
Joseph Cornell became famous for his shadow boxes, dioramas that were filled with images from his subconscious. Using the shadow box as our visual container, we will explore our Shadow through a variety of expressive arts techniques including journaling, movement/dance, and visual art. This expressive art workshop can be done one-on-one or with a group.
YOU CAN ALSO DO THIS SOLO FIRST (I send you a kit with instructions) AND THEN MEET FOR A SHARING AND WITNESSING SESSION.
